BREAKFREE! - STORY
I originally made the instrumental for “BREAKFREE!” as a Devon Hendryx type beat, back in 2023. I was bored in college and created it heavily inspired by the track “Sakura”, and named the song I made “UP!”. I then left this track at the bottom of my catalogue for almost 2 years.
It wasn’t until mid 2025, when I started properly putting together a sound for my album, that I revisited a bunch of old music and found “UP!”, accompanied by some older lyrics I wrote for the song. After a brief re-listen I wanted the focus to be more on the faint sample in the beginning which says “I don’t want to break free”.
After re-writing the lyrics to fit that better, the songs name changed to “BREAKFREE!” 2 years later.
Originally, I rapped the lyrics to the song (unenthusiastically spoke the lyrics). I used to love how tired it sounded however eventually, It just ended up sounding tired. After the lyrics were recorded, the OG BREAKFREE! was recorded.
